Susila
Dharma (Britain)
is a non-profit organisation which has been in existence
since 1969 and a registered charity since 1985 (No. 291818). It is the social and humanitarian wing in Britain of the World Subud
Association and supports a range of projects
in many different countries.
Susila Dharma (Britain) also works with the British Overseas
NGO's for Development (BOND). Our Mission is to stimulate and nurture initiatives by our members in Britain to undertake and support humanitarian projects anywhere in the world that empower people and are participatory, sustainable and in harmony with the local culture. The name Susila Dharma combines two Sanskrit words, which together mean guided from within to take action in the world. Susila Dharma work originates from an awareness of a common humanity that transcends differences. The intention behind Susila Dharma is to support people to live and work in harmony in their quest for a just and sustainable society. The focus of Susila Dharma is on people and relationships, and a belief in the ability of people to reach their potential - socially, economically and spiritually. Susila Dharma International works with the national bodies which have been set up in many countries, and it is to them that the individuals drawn to initiate local projects turn in the first instance. All these national bodies, usually consisting of a few dedicated members, are linked through SDIA, which collectively they make up. SDIA has its own office however, networking the national bodies and projects, and seeking appropriate expertise and funding. SDIA is in consultative status with United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) and International Childrens' Fund (UNICEF). |
