ICDP - LATEST NEWS

In Amanecer there is a project named Semillitas which means ‘little seeds’. This is also a very suitable name for what SD(B) funding has been able to do in Amanacer and in Ukraine. There are exciting possibilities emerging in both countries for substantial funding from outside Subud to make possible extensive programmes of ICDP (International Child Development Programme). It is hoped to initiate a national programme in Ukraine, working through educational institutions, and UNICEF in Colombia approached Lailah Armstrong offering funds secured from the Italian Government for work with children. It is making a real difference in the life of whole communities. There is the case of Jennifer, a 14 year old Colombian girl, who was pregnant and in despair. She received help from ICDP facilitators and subsequently trained to become a facilitator herself. Her attitude has completely changed and she is now training older women.

Without the initial smaller sums that SD(B) was able to give to enable Lailah to travel and set up the materials for these projects, the larger programmes would not take off. SD(B) is able to support this work because of the donations of Subud members. Lailah has recently given seminars in Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay.

THANK YOU

Susila Dharma (Britain) would like to thank the Lancaster Group for their contribution from the Spring Fair. It was a great day, wonderful weather and enjoyable entertainment.

NEW INFANTS’ HOME, DNEPROPETROVSK, UKRAINE

Victor Gregorovich, the new director, was very grateful for the donation from SD(Britain). His first priority, he said, was a computer for bookkeeping and for storing information on the children to be admitted. With the £500. Lena bought a computer and printer: £450 with £50 in reserve for additional software and computer cartridges.

These, and any other assets that we purchase for the home, will remain the property of Zina Andreyeva (a Subud member) who runs the Parenting Club. The doctor knows this and has agreed to it.

Renovations should be finished by July. When everything is in place the first group of 10 children will be admitted.

The home in the future could become a training centre for ICDP in co-operation with the Psychology Department of Dnepropetrovsk University, where Julia Sitenko, a Subud member, works. Doctor Gregorovich is open to this idea and a meeting is being arranged with him during Lailah Armstrong’s visit in June. Laura Lesley
