SUMMARY OF 98th MEETING OF SUSILA DHARMA (BRITAIN) 7/8th MAY 2005

The Chair of Subud Britain, Stephen Gonsalves, joined our meeting to discuss communications and working closely together with SD(B).

World Congress.  SD(B) will submit a report as part of a country report to WC.  We will mount a display of projects supported including Wisma Mulia, which is the only SD item at present based in UK.

Fundraising events have been planned (Canterbury Group has now had theirs).  Maemunah is organising a Bollywood event at her place of work, and Worthing Group have a fundraising event on 16th July.

Sjarifah reported on her participation in the Bizonal meeting in Kinshasa, and her visits to various projects in the Congo.  It is hoped to co-ordinate funding with other SDs and meet with project leaders during WC.

It was also hoped to meet with Bella and Joe Rosario from Mithra Foundation at WC to clarify what funding they needed from us, and also to understand the possibility of sustainability of the schools.

Sustainable Livelihoods programme, Kalimantan.  It has been decided not to make another application to the Community Fund at this time, because our first effort has been rejected, and it was felt better to consolidate what had already been achieved.  The methods are now well understood by some of the villages and they can sustain themselves to a certain extent.  SD(B) has budgeted to support a small team of field workers.

SD(B) has received requests to fund a TB prevention project in Kalimantan, and we are liaising with SD Indonesia and IRDN to firm up on the proposals.  It is hoped to move on to a malaria prevention programme subsequently.

SD(B) agreed to send £2,000 for tsunami relief and medical aid to American Overseas Medical Aid Assocn., which has been set up by US Subud members.

ICDP.  The Board agreed to send $2,200 in response to a request from the ICDP project at Mina Clavero, Argentina, for the next stage of their project.

SD(B) has received a request for funding from Amanecer School, including work with indigenous people, and we are clarifying how much is needed for this aspect of the project before deciding on funding.

An application is being made to the Diana Memorial Fund on behalf of Clearpath International.  Michael Wisnom and Imbert Matthee are liaising on the application, which has to be submitted by 24th June.

Sachlan reported on three projects where artemisia is being grown in an effort to help malaria victims.  These are Daniella Bustillo’s in Rungan Sari, Dr. Rachman Mitchell’s in Kalimantan, and Ruslan Morris’s in Java.  Artemisia is also being grown in East Timor but Luke Comey has now passed this to CARE International because he has left the country.

SD(B)’s next meeting is on 10th July at Loudwater.
