SUMMARY OF 96th MEETING OF SUSILA DHARMA (BRITAIN) 11th/12th DECEMBER 2004

We welcomed three new Trustees to the Board – Maemunah Hasan , Sarah Garrard and Hamid Kennedy.

Sjarifah Roberts will look into the possibility of attending the Bi-Zonal meeting in Kinshasa, R.D. Congo, on behalf of SD(B).  Other people from SDIA and African projects will be attending.

Amalia Dickie from Austria, one of SD’s UN links, will be taking part in the Peace Exhibition in Edinburgh in February ’05, and Sjarifah will put together a display of SD work for a stall which is being supported by the Edinburgh group.

We discussed our commitments for 2005 and tried to set a budget.  We realised that we were going to struggle to meet these commitments because of the failure in our applications to the Community Fund for the TSLICK project in Kalimantan and Mithra Foundation in India.  We therefore decided to have a fundraising drive in 2005.

We congratulate the Exeter group in holding a dinner in aid of Clearpath International which helps victims of landmines which raised nearly £700.

It is hoped to keep the TSLICK project ticking over and it is thought £5000 should be sufficient for this.

Lailah Armstrong joined the meeting to report on the successful ICDP programme in Nariňo, Colombia.  She told us that UNICEF want to extend the programme in 2005 to a region called Boyaca and double their funding.  They hope to work with the Church, 3 universities, education and health professionals in 123 towns.  Each authority would make a financial contribution to the programme and ICDP needs to find £8,000.  SD(B) hopes to support Lailah in this great programme.

The Board decided to send £1,800 to the SRADHA project in India to complete the funding for their training centre.

We have received a proposal from Mithra totalling £9,000 for 2005 to fund the slum centres.  We are not yet clear how they will fund the running of the primary school, and will try to clarify the position with Bella.

The Board agreed to help fund a seminar in Indonesia on the use of artemisia for the treatment of malaria.  SDIA are contributing $1,000 to this.

The Board is always happy to hear from anyone who feels they would like to support the work of SD in any way either by fundraising, organising local events, acting as a link to other organisations, translations etc.
