SUMMARY OF 94th MEETING OF SUSILA DHARMA (BRITAIN) 17th/18th JULY 2004

International Child Development Programme (ICDP)
It was agreed to conribute $1,624 to the ICDP project at Vida Plena in Paraguay to meet the cost of seminars to be held by the two groups working there. A further $10,000 had been needed to supplement UNICEF’s funding of the Narino project in Colombia. Unicef had now been able to find another $5,000, leaving $5,000 still required. This will be needed by October, and any donations (preferably through gift aid payments) will be much appreciated to enable this important ICDP project to go ahead in partnership with UNICEF.

India
We are asking the Mithra project for its budget for next year, so that we can then look at our future support. Raphael Bate and Lawrence Fryer (treasurer of SD Germany) are visiting Mithra in September.

Indonesia
Sachlan reported on his recent visit to Kalimantan to assess the state of play of the TSLICK project (Towards Sustainable Livelihoods in Central Kalimantan). Lorna Dowson-Collins and Didiek (the local manager) are busy carrying out consultancy work for the World Bank, which could have benefits in the form of future support and funding for TSLICK projects. We await the result of a substantial application to the Big Lottery Fund to continue the project.

Congo
The board agreed to contribute $750 to the Yenge Health Centre to meet the cost of a refrigerator that was urgently needed at this clinic. Lemba Imbu school required funding for a library, infirmary and a facility to take care of destitute children. We are asking them to let us know their priorities between these areas.

Artemisia
Sachlan reported that the artemisia strain that we are using to help prevent and cure malaria was being manufactured under licence by a German non-profit organisation. A Subud member in Jakarta was planning three artemisia projects in Java, and wished to take advantage of a 5-day seminar offered by the German organisation on the growing and medical use of artemisia. We are trying to organise financial support towards the cost with SDIA and other national Susila Dharmas.

Fundacion el Refugio, Bogota, Colombia
It was agreed to contribute 2,040 euros following receipt of a grant application to continue work with teenagers from forcibly-displaced families on personal development and projects to improve their life chances.
