SUMMARY OF 91st MEETING OF SUSILA DHARMA (BRITAIN) 31st JANUARY 2004

Manike Appeal
The most extensive of Manike’s operations – to reconstruct her left and right jawbones – is scheduled for 9th March.  SD(B) has agreed  to help fund her accommodation costs and has asked about her convalescence requirements.

Indonesia
Lorna Dowson-Collins has returned to Kalimantan to continue her work raising funds for charitable projects in Indonesia. A further application to the Community Fund for a continuation of funding for the TSLICK project (Towards Sustainable Livelihoods in Central Kalimantan) will be made soon.

Colombia
We have sent $1,000 to the Collegio Amanecer school for training and self-evaluation workshops.

International Child Development Programme
The board agreed to contribute (a) the cost of travel for Lailah Armstrong to visit Argentina to continue her training work there, (b) $1,000 to Virna Cassuccio for her second training ICDP project in the Mina Clavero area of Argentina, and (c) £260 towards the cost of the ICDP video.           

Congo
The board was pleased to hear about the good work that Charlotte N’Dona was doing as chair of Susila Dharma in D R Congo. It was agreed to contribute $1,500 towards teachers’ salaries at the Complex Scolaire school at Inkisi.

India
Lorena de Silva, who has been working at the Mithra school near Bangalore, is due to return on 24th February. SD Germany is working on a proposal to BMZ (the German government’s development agency) to extend the voluntary training centre at Mithra.

Wisma Mulia
The auction of the necklace, kindly donated by Viviana Bulow Huber, has raised £510. Part of the balance of funds contributed to Wisma Mulia have been used to buy a combined portable video/TV for the residents.

Treasurer
The board was very pleased that Stephen Weil has agreed to take on the job of SD(B) treasurer once he has relinquished the post of chairman of the Reigate group. Meanwhile Mark McElroy continues to carry out this valuable work.

Artemesia
Sachlan North is liaising with other professionals to try and extend the possibility of propagating a cultivar of artemesia for treatment of malaria in Indonesia and Africa.
