SUMMARY
OF 90th MEETING OF SUSILA DHARMA (BRITAIN)
22nd NOVEMBER 2003
Manike
Appeal
The news on Manike
is that she had her first operation, to remove the tumour on the right
side of her face, in mid July. The surgeon said it was successful and
was happy with her recovery. The second operation, on the left side of
her face, took place in mid October and was also successful; her eye
socket was reconstructed with a piece of her hip bone. The surgeon
hopes to carry out the largest and most expensive operation – to
reconstruct her left and right jaw bones - in January. SD(B) has
agreed that some of the funds generously contributed for Manike’s
treatment can be used to meet her living expenses, as this will still
leave sufficient to cover all medical costs.
Clear
Path International
Two successful dinners had been held, in Brecon and Bristol, for this
project – which helps victims of land mines in South East Asia to be
rehabilitated back into society. $2,500 has been sent to Clear Path.
Michael will visit Cambodia in late December on holiday and will visit
the vocational training programme in Cambodia.
Wisma
Mulia
The assisted bath had been installed and was working. Both the
residents and staff were very happy with it. Funds raised for the
assisted bathroom were sufficient to cover the cost of the bath, the
hoist and the shower.
Fundraising
for Indonesia
Lorna Dowson-Collins is working in Kalimantan carrying out her role as
fundraiser for charitable projects in Indonesia. She has reported that
an application to the World Bank for funding for a new museum in
Palangkaraya, with which she had helped, has been successful. One of
Lorna’s main tasks is working on a further application to the
Community Fund for a continuation of funding for the TSLICK project
(Towards Sustainable Livelihoods in Central Kalimantan).
F
E Amor
F E Amor has
requested a commitment for future regular support. It was agreed that
SD(B) should commit to giving $2,500 for 2004, payable 6-monthly in
advance in January and July. This should be additional to any funds
raised from British members through the plan padrinos scheme.
SD(B)
in Britain
The board discussed how Susila Dharma initiatives could be
stimulated and nurtured in Britain. We should try to communicate to
Subud groups what Susila Dharma is all about, suggest that members feel
this for themselves and let them know that we are available to help
with this.
Mithra
Roberta Palfreyman is running a raffle for Mithra, and tickets have
been sent to Subud groups. We are grateful to Roberta for this
initiative.
ICDP
UNICEF has produced a video on ICDP work in Colombia. We hope to
obtain copies and will be pleased to show them to groups and at
Regional meetings.
Next
Meeting
Our
next board meeting will be on Saturday 31st January 2004 at Loudwater
Farm
