SUMMARY
OF 85th MEETING OF SUSILA DHARMA (BRITAIN)
16/17
NOVEMBER 2002
Wisma
Mulia
On the basis of the amount
contributed by Subud members so far, the board has made a commitment to
meet the cost of around £10,000 for the assisted bath, including
installation, at the Wisma Mulia residential home in Gloucestershire.
International
Child Development Programme
The board heard from Lailah
Armstrong about the development of ICDP in the overseas countries she
had visited recently, especially in Argentina and Brazil. The
relationship with ICDP in Norway was discussed, and how SD(B)’s new
sub-committee and Susila Dharma International (SDI) could help to
provide administrative back-up for Lailah as her work expanded into
more countries.
Fundraising
for Indonesia
Lorna Dowson-Collins reported on her work since the last meeting
and on action to be taken over the next 3 months. An application has
been made to the European Union to fund the autonomy and
democratisation programme in Kalimantan. Work is proceeding on a
proposal to develop the eco village in Rungan Sari into a model for all
eco-friendly villages and a training centre attracting eco-tourism; a
funding application would be presented to the Asian Action Trust in
January. The community mining proposal has been completed and a
corporate sponsor is being sought.
Mithra
Project
Raphael’s sponsored cycle
ride (Miles for Mithra) from Canada (Vancouver) to Mexico (Tijuana)
raised around £8,200 from Subud members in Canada, USA, Britain and
Australia. An anonymous donor has provided funds for the school to buy
a minibus and also to improve teachers’ salaries. A funding
application to the Community Fund will be submitted by the end of this
year.
Ukraine
The board agreed to
participate in funding a minibus for the Shkola Vera school for
handicapped children in Cherkassy. SD(B) will contribute one third of
the cost ($2,800) with the balance coming from SD Netherlands and SD
Germany, who initiated this project with the support of SD Ukraine.
International
Issues
It was reported
that a meeting of European SDs would be held in Hamburg from 14-16
March 2003. One aim would be to increase co-operation between European
SDs, including joint project co-ordination and fundraising. SD(B) would
be represented by 3 of its trustees. The board also agreed to increase
SD(B)’s contribution to SDI for 2002 from £5,500 to £7,000.
SD(B)
Treasurer
No-one has yet expressed
interest in standing in for Mark during his absence overseas for 2-3
months early in 2003 and/or taking on the role of treasurer after the
end of 2003, when Mark
would like to retire from this position. We would like to find a Subud
member to fill this position if possible.
Our
next meeting
will be on 18/19 January 2003 at Loudwater Farm.
