SUMMARY
OF 84th MEETING OF SUSILA DHARMA (BRITAIN)
31
AUGUST/1 SEPTEMBER 2002
·
British
International Gathering and Congress (BIG 2002)
There
has been a positive feedback from Subud members on the various
Susila Dharma presentations at BIG 2002 between 11 – 18 August. The
opportunity to meet representatives of other national SDs (from France,
Germany, Holland, Ukraine, RD Congo, Canada and USA) and of Susila
Dharma International (SDI) was valuable and enjoyable, and should help
lead to greater co-ordination when assisting SD projects in different
countries.
·
International
Issues
The
board welcomed Sharifin Gardiner to his first SD(B) meeting since
becoming a director of SDI in August. As part of his liaison role
between SDI and national SDs in Europe he planned to visit other
national SDs in Europe. He agreed that a protocol was needed between
SDI and national SDs for co-ordinating information on projects being
supported by more than one SD.
·
International
Child Development Programme
In
view of the increasing importance of ICDP, it is hoped to form a sub
committee, consisting of Lorena and Laura from the SD(B) board and
Lailah Armstrong, to help plan its development. An important aspect was
to introduce ICDP to the Lewes New School. An application had been made
to Charity KnowHow, a funding body in Britain, to help finance an ICDP
project at Kharkhov in the Ukraine.
·
Fundraising
for Indonesia
It
was agreed that Michael, Sachlan and Robert should form a sub committee
of the board to monitor progress and assist Lorna Dowson-Collins in her
work. A meeting would be arranged with Lorna as soon as practicable.
·
Mithra
Project
Raphael’s
sponsored cycle ride from Canada (Vancouver) to Mexico (Tijuana) was
given a send-off by SDI in Vancouver on 6th September. As a result of
contacts developed at BIG 2002 further funding has resulted for Mithra
in addition to the ongoing financial support already provided by SD(B)
and SD Germany.
·
Wisma
Mulia
So
far over £8,000 has been contributed by Subud members towards the cost
of an assisted bathroom at the Wisma Mulia residential home in
Gloucestershire. The board is most grateful to all those who made
donations. Planning and other necessary consents have now been
obtained. Tenders from contractors should be received in November, and
work is expected to start immediately after the Christmas/New Year
holiday..
·
SD(B) Treasurer
Mark will be out of the country for 2-3 months early in 2003,
and also does not wish to continue as treasurer after the end of
2003. We are therefore seeking a suitable person to cover for Mark’s
absence of 2-3 months. This could also serve as a trial period for a
successor to Mark
·
Our
next meeting
will be on 16/17 November at Loudwater Farm.
