SUMMARY OF MEETING OF SUSILA DHARMA (BRITAIN) 24th JUNE 2006

Four members of the Board are meeting with representatives from SES in Brecon on 15/16 July with the aim of building bridges and exchanging views.

It is hoped that SD(B) will be allocated a one hour slot within the official Subud Britain programme at National Congress in August.  We will give an update on our activities and explore what ‘Susila Dharma’ means to the delegates present.  We also plan to have one or two guest speakers.

Lailah Armstrong gave us the latest news on the progress of ICDP in Colombia, and elsewhere in South America.  The large programme in Boyaca had been completed although monitoring and follow up work would continue.  55,000 families and 150,000 children had been included and it was rated a success.

The next province where ICDP is being delivered is Huila, and this covers 37 centres.  SD(B) is contributing £4,000 to this.

It is planned to start a micro-credit scheme at Amanecer as a way of sustaining the ICDP work.  A project in Bogota is just beginning, and there is another project in Medellin, not involving any SD(B) funding.  An offshoot of this was a project at Choco where Lailah hopes to involve Subud members in the training process.

There are now two ICDP projects in Argentina and one in El Salvador.  Guatamala is the country where UNICEF is likely to start the next ICDP project.

Kingantoko.  SD(B) has agreed to act as the EU SD partner with Viktor Boehm and Subud Congo to sign an application for EU funding towards the cost of a project to supply clean water to the Kingantoko centre and 4 surrounding villages.  The EU decision will not be known until December.

SD(B) has agreed to support Latifah Nankivell’s initiative to raise funds for a project to bring water to Vhombozi in Zimbabwe.  This project was initiated by a New Zealand Subud member, Hugh Lynn.

The Board agreed to contribute £100 towards a clinic in Malawi, mainly catering for children with AIDS.  This project was brought to the Board’s attention by a member of the Perth group whose sister-in-law is involved in the clinic.

Laura would like to thank all those who sent items of jewellery to be sold at the Summer Happening in Lamberhurst on 8th July.  Thanks to your generosity £150 was raised for SD(B).  We will have a stall in the Craft Room (thanks to the co-operation of Latifah Nankivell and Sophia Hughes) where surplus items of jewellery and toiletries will be sold.  ALL CONTRIBUTIONS GRATEFULLY RECEIVED !
